Pregnancy and Child Services

Throughout pregnancy adaptations occur to allow for the developing child. Ligaments soften, the curves of the spine change as does the posture. As the baby grows, your centre of gravity moves forward.

This alters the normal mechanical stress on the body and exaggerates the arching in the lower back. All of these changes increase the pressure on the spinal joints, muscles and ligaments.

Osteopathic treatment supports the body through these changes.

Treatment by an osteopath is gentle and non-invasive.

Osteopathic treatment while pregnant can ease some of the symptoms typically associated with pregnancy which include:

  • aches and pains as a result of extra strain on the spine
  • sciatica
  • pelvic pain/lower abdominal pain/hip pain
  • Nausea and heartburn
  • Circulatory problems such as swelling in the legs and varicose veins as a result of increased pressure on the abdomen.
  • rib and mid back pain leading to breathlessness and difficulty deep breathing
  • headaches
  • history of back pain which could affect pregnancy or delivery

Your case history will be taken and we will go through your medical history. Treatment varies for every patient but may include techniques such as soft tissue massage mobilizations and cranial osteopathy. This will help release tension, stretch muscles, help relieve pain and mobilize your joints.

We can also provide advice on breathing techniques stretches and exercises you can do to maintain your health and wellbeing throughout your pregnancy.

Help ease any aches and pains during pregnancy by improving flexibility and stability in the pelvis helping to prepare for childbirth.

Osteopathic care is gentle and safe for the growing child.

It uses natural techniques without the involvement of drugs and/or surgery. Its treatments can aid a child’s development, enabling them to easily adjust to the rapid changes occurring with the body during growth.

  • postural symptoms
  • back and neck pain
  • headaches
  • growing pains
